Tuition fee

Students are required to pay their tuition fee according to the academic year in which they have started their first year (not foundation year) studies at the University of Szeged, Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School. In order to check how much tuition fee you are required to pay, please click on the academic year you started your first year studies in.

(Example: You started your first year in the academic year 2023/2024, you are currently doing your second year studies, and you're looking to find out how much your fees will be in the second semester of the current academic year. Click on 2023/2024 below to open the tuition fee sheet. The row you have to look at is 1-5 in the "Year" column. Now check the "2nd semester" column. You'll find the amount of fees you have to pay in the intersection of the "1-5" row and the "2nd semester fee" column.)

Students who are paying the full tuition fee:
If you are paying 100% of your tuition fees (you are following the study plan/taking at least 3 compulsory subjects in the semester), then you can pay your tuition fees in three installments in accordance with the deadlines that appear on Neptun:

50% of your tuition fees must arrive by September 10,
25% of your tuition fees (75% total) must arrive by October 10,
25% of your tuition fees (100% total) must arrive by November 10.

You can, of course, pay all 3 installments at the same time (prior to above deadlines) on the day these tuition fee payment obligations appear on Neptun. If the first installment of your tuition fees (50%) does not appear as paid on Neptun, your student status switches from 'undetermined' to 'passive' and the courses you registered for on Neptun in the semester are removed around October 10.

Click here to find out how tuition fees are calculated.

Click here to see how students can ask for a maximum of 50% reduction of their tuition fees in case they are taking less than 3 compulsory subjects in a semester.

Ways of paying your tuition fees:

Online on Neptun by going to "Finances" > "To be paid", or
• via money transfer.

Students are highly recommend to pay online from the 2025/2026 academic year on as opposed to paying via money transfer now that it is available, because with the latter method they really have to pay well in advance to meet the arrival deadline, and it happens sometimes that the transfer does not go through, prolonging the process even further, leading to confusion and even the deletion of students' courses for the semester in some cases.

Information on paying via money transfer:

Both international and intranational money transfers can take a lot of time to go through.

To make sure that your fees arrive in time, pay 3 to 4 weeks prior to the arrival deadline.

• Banks usually take commission for money transfers, and oftentimes there are more than two banks involved in such transactions, so be sure to let the bank know when you submit the transaction request that you wish for the exact amount to reach the university’s account, and note that you have to pay all surcharges.

• For easy identification of your payment, please indicate your full legal name, your program (medicine), your year (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.), neptun code, and the semester you are paying your fees for (e.g., 2025/2026-1) when you (or your guardian) transfer your tuition fees.

On May 12, the University of Szeged held an official ceremony to inaugurate its new research unit: the Host–Pathogen Interaction Center. Located within the Institute of Biology, the Center features Hungary’s only in vivo experimental station of its kind, alongside five newly renovated laboratories. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to support the development of antimicrobial therapies, with a particular focus on antifungal treatments – addressing a pressing yet often overlooked public health concern. The project was made possible through both professional and financial support from Katalin Karikó, an SZTE alumna and recipient of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
