50% reduction of tuition fees

Students who are paying the full tuition fee:

If you are paying 100% of your tuition fees (you are following the study plan/taking at least 3 compulsory subjects in the semester), then you can pay your tuition fees in three installments in accordance with the deadlines that appear on Neptun:
50% of your tuition fees must arrive by September 10/February 10,
25% of your tuition fees (75% total) must arrive by October 10/March 10,
25% of your tuition fees (100% total) must arrive by November 10/April 10.

Students who are applying for a tuition fee reduction because they are taking less than 3 compulsory subjects:

Students who are taking no more than 2 compulsory subjects in the semester concerned are eligible to request a 50% reduction of their tuition fees from the Academic Board of the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School (after two completed active semesters).

Please note that the 50% reduction is not automatic—you must request it via modulo. If you do not request a reduction, you have to pay the full amount of your tuition fees (100%).

The payment plan for students whose tuition fees have been formally reduced by 50% by the Academic Board is as follows:

1: Submit a request on modulo to the Academic Board (Submission > Students’ Service Office (HSZI) > Request for reducing the tuition fee) 15 days prior to the second installment deadline. If you miss the submission deadline, a reduction of your tuition fees by 50% will no longer be possible. Please make sure to attach your course registration plan to the request form on modulo (see below).

2: 50% of your tuition fees (considered the full amount in such a case) must arrive by September 10/February 10. Paying in installments is not a possibility in such a case.

3: Fill in, read, sign and send the course registration plan to your academic officer via e-mail when requested.

If the full amount does not appear as paid on Neptun, your student status switches from 'undetermined' to 'passive' and the courses you registered for on Neptun in the semester are removed around October 10.

Students whose student status is passive:
• cannot be issued any official documents regarding the semester in question,
• are forbidden to attend practices and seminars, and are thus accumulating absences that departments are required to count toward the students' overall absences in the semester,
• are forbidden to partake in knowledge-testing (e.g., mtos),
• do not have a valid Generali Studium health insurance.

The University of Szeged and MSD have established a joint Pharmaceutical Industry Partnership Department, marking a new chapter in their collaboration. This initiative builds on a long-standing partnership – further strengthened in 2023 through clinical trial cooperation – and seeks to foster innovation in research, education, and pharmaceutical development. The agreement was officially signed in Szeged by Prof. Dr. László Rovó, Rector of the University of Szeged; Prof. Dr. Ildikó Csóka, Director-General for Strategic Planning; Prof. Dr. Zsolt Szakonyi, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; Sean R. Smith, Managing Director of MSD Pharma Hungary Kft.; and Dr. Szabolcs Barótfi, Director of Clinical Research at MSD Hungary.

On May 12, the University of Szeged held an official ceremony to inaugurate its new research unit: the Host–Pathogen Interaction Center. Located within the Institute of Biology, the Center features Hungary’s only in vivo experimental station of its kind, alongside five newly renovated laboratories. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to support the development of antimicrobial therapies, with a particular focus on antifungal treatments – addressing a pressing yet often overlooked public health concern. The project was made possible through both professional and financial support from Katalin Karikó, an SZTE alumna and recipient of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
