Welcome to the 40th Anniversary of the English Program at the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School!

Dear Alumni,

We are excited to invite you to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the English Program here in Szeged. It’s hard to believe that four decades have passed since the program welcomed its first students. Over the years, our graduates have built successful medical careers across the world, and now we would love to bring everyone together again.

It’s time to reflect on this incredible journey, reconnect with old friends, and rediscover the place where it all began.

Join us in Szeged from October 3-5, 2025, for a special Alumni Reunion Weekend. This will be a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet fellow alumni from different years, and see how the university has evolved. Whether you have visited recently or haven’t been back in years, we would love to welcome you.

What’s Planned for the Weekend?

Medical Talks & CME Sessions – Hear from fellow alumni as they share updates on the latest research and medical advancements

Breakfast with the Faculty – Enjoy a relaxed morning catching up with former and current faculty members while sharing memories from your student days.

Campus Tour – Take a guided tour of the university, explore new facilities, and visit the cutting-edge simulation labs used for medical training today

Gala Dinner – The highlight of the weekend! Join us for an evening of fine dining, entertainment, and a multimedia presentation celebrating 40 years of the program. The evening will also include an award session and plenty of time to socialize.

Bridging Generations – Meet current medical students, share your experience, and offer advice to the next generation of doctors

Networking & Social Events – Reconnect with classmates and expand your professional network with alumni working in various fields of medicine

Family-Friendly Activities – Bring your loved ones along! A special program of cultural and social events will be available for spouses, children, and guests

We can’t wait to welcome you back to Szeged and celebrate this milestone together. Stay tuned for more details on registration and the full event schedule!

See you in October 2025!

The University of Szeged and MSD have established a joint Pharmaceutical Industry Partnership Department, marking a new chapter in their collaboration. This initiative builds on a long-standing partnership – further strengthened in 2023 through clinical trial cooperation – and seeks to foster innovation in research, education, and pharmaceutical development. The agreement was officially signed in Szeged by Prof. Dr. László Rovó, Rector of the University of Szeged; Prof. Dr. Ildikó Csóka, Director-General for Strategic Planning; Prof. Dr. Zsolt Szakonyi, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; Sean R. Smith, Managing Director of MSD Pharma Hungary Kft.; and Dr. Szabolcs Barótfi, Director of Clinical Research at MSD Hungary.

On May 12, the University of Szeged held an official ceremony to inaugurate its new research unit: the Host–Pathogen Interaction Center. Located within the Institute of Biology, the Center features Hungary’s only in vivo experimental station of its kind, alongside five newly renovated laboratories. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to support the development of antimicrobial therapies, with a particular focus on antifungal treatments – addressing a pressing yet often overlooked public health concern. The project was made possible through both professional and financial support from Katalin Karikó, an SZTE alumna and recipient of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
