Odontotechnology Summer Practice

It is very important for you to note that if you are entering the next module in the first semester of the academic year 2017/2018 (entering the third year or entering the fourth year), you will have to have your summer practice evaluation sheet (either the odontotechnology or the oral surgery summer practice) submitted by the beginning of the Neptun course registration period, which is around the end of August, 2017 (exact dates will be available at a later date; please check the on-line schedule).

Unless you submit your evaluation sheet by then, Neptun will not let you sign up for any subjects from the next module, as part of the completion of the previous module is completing the corresponding summer practice as well.

Please plan ahead and see to that you will be able to submit your evaluation sheet in time. Remember that the secretariat only accepts the original evaluation sheets, not the photocopies or electronic images sent via e-mail. You can begin your Neptun course registration as soon as everything appears as completed on Neptun — including your summer practice.

Students having begun their studies in or after the academic year 2012/2013 do not have to pay a fee if they carry out their summer practice at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Szeged.

Students having begun their studies before the academic year 2012/2013 have to pay a 600 USD fee for the odontotechnology practice if they are carrying out their practice at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Szeged.

It is recommended to pay using Neptun. Once your outstanding debts appear on Neptun (log into Neptun, go to ‘Finances’, then ‘Payment’), you can make your payments using your credit/debit card there, or using a credit/debit card at the Hallgatói Szolgáltató Iroda located at 6722 Szeged, Ady tér 10. (in the University library). Other payment methods are available; please check the main 'Summer practices' section.

ODONTOTECHNOLOGICAL PRACTICE

(Summer practice)

2016/2017, 2^nd semester, 2^nd year, Dental students

Place: Faculty of Dentistry, Building A, Training Laboratory

Time: 2 x 35 hours (Odontotechnology) in July according to the group arrangement

Exam: Signature

Credit: 0

Dr. Diána Biliczki-Graca dentist (35 hours/semester)

Conditions of accepting the practice:

1./ Participation, based on the Academic Regulation of the Faculty of Dentistry University of Szeged.

2./ Fulfillment of the practice requirements

Detailed description of the practice requirements:

1. week 1. day – Drawing of teeth (incisor, canine): home exercise. Carving teeth in wax (upper first incisor and canine with root),

2. day – Drawing of teeth (premolars and molars): home exercise. Carving teeth in wax (lower premolar with root), carving teeth in plaster (upper molar crown)

3. day – demonstration: Use of impression materials on mannequin. Making study casts, bite registration. Mounting the casts in the articulator.

4. day – Exercise of anatomic impression on mannequin, making study casts.

5. day – Exercise of anatomic impression on mannequin, making study casts.

2. week 1. day – Surgery: making alginate impression from upper and lower jaws from each other, bite registration, making a cast.

2. day – Visiting the dental technical laboratory (Hódi Lab)

3. day – Visiting the dental technical laboratory (Szűts Dent)

4. day – Surgery: making alginate impression from upper and lower jaws from each other, bite registration, making a cast.

5. day – Students laboratory: Power Point presentation about a dental technical procedure with own photos, taken in the laboratory. Evaluation of model mounting.

In the 2^nd week students visit dental technical laboratories (metal casting, ceramic works, model preparation etc.). Documentation have to be prepared in the last day of the summer practice about technical procedures, which are presented with photos about all own work from the first to the last week. Pictures from the internet are not accepted!

Conditions of accepting the practice for those who spend the practice outside the University

At the end of the practice the student must present:

- upper and lower study cast and bite registration

- an upper middle incisor with root carved in wax, coronal size about 2-3cm

- an upper canine with root carved in wax, coronal size about 2-3cm

- a lower premolar with root carved in wax, coronal size about 2-3cm

- an upper molar carved in white plaster (only coronal part)

- a Power Point presentation about a dental technical procedure (4-7 slides) with photos made by the student. Pictures from the internet are not accepted!

Those students who don’t come to the Dental Faculty Students Laboratory for the practice, have to bring a certification from the head of the laboratory, where they stay for the practice, in which he/she declares that the student spent two weeks in the lab and fulfilled the above mentioned tasks.

This statement must arrive to the Dean’s Office of the Dental Faculty after the completion of the practice.

Students have to show their work prepared by themselves in the first week of Preclinical Course of Prosthodontics

-An upper middle incisor with root carved in wax, coronal size about 2-3 cm

-An upper canine with root carved in wax, coronal size about 2-3cm

-A lower premolar with root carved in wax, coronal size about 2-3 cm

-An upper molar carved in white plaster (only coronal part)

- A power point presentation about a dental technical procedure (4-7 slides) with photos made by the student. Pictures from the internet are not accepted! The presentation will be assessed; the mark will be counted among the results of the Preclinical Course of Prosthodontics. This is also a condition of accepting this course.
