GLP1and insulin signalling in neural networks of the human cortex

projekt2

Uncovering the role of GABAergic micro network in diabetes could open therapies of dementia and early Alzheimer’s disease (recently referred as 3rd type diabetes).Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptors are expressed by pancreatic beta cells and GLP-1 receptor signalling promotes insulin secretion. GLP-1 receptor agonists have neural effects and are therapeutically promising for mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease. Previously we showed that cortical inhibitory cell called neurogliaform cell releases insulin (Molnár et al., 2014) and contains GLP-1 (glucagon like peptide) receptors (Csajbók et al., 2019). Our goal to study neural insulin production effect on network functions in the rodent and human brain.
